The Census Bureau is currently recruiting thousands of part time employees, with the largest task force being the enumerators, or those who actually go door to door to help facilitate the census by interviewing certain home owners and residents.
The job itself offers quite a few advantages. It is part time, with census workers usually working between twenty to forty hours a week. The hours are flexible, although most of the work is done either in the evening or on the weekend. This makes it perfect for people who already have a full time job, but who are interested in earning a little extra money. The pay is good, and you are reimbursed for any work related expenses such as gas or transport. Workers are paid weekly. There is some training required prior to starting the job, however it is paid training.
Census jobs are great for people who want to work part time to bring in a little extra money, or for anyone who is currently unemployed, or for anyone who is retired but looking to earn additional income. You are paid hourly rates, which vary from one area to another, based on regional cost of living differences. Currently, enumerators are earning anywhere from approximately $11 to $22 per hour, depending on the area they work in. Considering the fact that there is no experience needed, and you receive paid training, this does seem like a fairly good deal. The Census Bureau is also currently seeking anyone who is bilingual, providing that you are proficient in speaking English as well.
It is recommended that you have a valid driver’s license and that you have a vehicle you can use. The job may not be suited to everyone, although if you like meeting people, and you do not mind asking people questions, you would probably enjoy this job. It is also a great way for people to get out and about in their own local communities.
